What our carers say about fostering
The assessment
“The assessment was not too daunting, though it could be a bit nerve wracking at times. We were a little surprised at the level of probing but it made sense. Going to the panel did feel a bit like taking my driving test.
We thought long and hard about fostering because it is right for some but not right for others. We had to make the decision that would be right for the whole of our family.”
Gerry and Lorraine Allen
“We enjoyed the process because our assessor was friendly and we both exchanged thoughts on our lives. Whilst it was professionally executed we were relaxed about the whole matter. Going to panel was far more frightening because of the make up of the whole thing and having to speak up. Of course if we could not meet the challenge of that task then we would be limited advocates for young people.”
