What we provide -
We provide a comprehensive learning and development programme, including group foster care training as well as online and video sessions. Specialist trainers are sourced, bringing expert knowledge in their field. Feedback from foster carers is useful insight to ensure high quality and interesting training is constantly provided. We make our training programme as accessible as possible by putting on courses in local geographical areas to our foster carers.
Learning and development is an important part of the support we give to foster carers. We provide in-house training, on-line training and events outside of the agency that may be of interest to you with other organisations such as Local Safeguarding Children Boards. We are committed to empowering people to develop themselves, with the ‘Transforming Lives’ ethos. This is maintained throughout the organisation and via our fostering family events, which have a clear emphasis on togetherness and fun!
Every year we have Annual events including our Awards Ceremony, Christmas Party, Easter Craft Days and day trips during the Summer Holidays. Our Annual Awards are held every October and offer an opportunity for foster carers and children/ young people to be rewarded for their hard-work and achievements. We also hold a Christmas Party every year for the children where they can meet Santa, are given a Christmas gift and entertained all evening with a range of dances and activities.
During the warmer months of the year, we try to stay outdoors as much as possible. In previous years we’ve been to Chessington World of Adventures, paintballing and picnics in the park. These joyous endeavours have been a chance for children, young people, foster carers and staff to relax and do something a bit different.
At Chrysalis Care, we strive to ensure our children and young people have enjoyable, fun-filled activities and experiences. Our Children’s Services Team are instrumental in ensuring that these events and occasions are a great success.
The Children’s Services Team is central to the foster care support that Chrysalis Care provides. Via our Children’s Services, we can carry out a wide range of functions including:
- 1-1 Mentoring
- Education Support
- Behaviour Management Programmes
- Support Groups children and young people who are looked after
- Arranging Social Events
Occasionally they can help out with transport to assist with contact or other practical problems (within reason of course!).
We have created guides for children in foster care, to help them understand what’s happening. These can be found by following the links below:
All training reflects vocational competences and both foster carers and staff can gain underpinning knowledge from most courses. The training schedule at Chrysalis Care conforms to the National Minimum Standards and the UK National Standards related to foster care. In addition to social workers, training is facilitated by foster carers and service users, as well as sub-contracted trainers.
Training is divided up into the following broad subsections:
- Skills to Foster pre-approval initial preparation training and assessment (cross referenced to DFE/TSD standards)
- Basic Post-Approval Training Mandatory Courses, (such as Behaviour Management, Attachment Training, etc)
- Special Courses and Continuing Professional Development for Foster Carers and Staff
- Vocational Underpinning Knowledge (acknowledging TSD standards)
The training programme is devised in consultation with foster carers and staff members, to be as inclusive and person-centered as possible. We are committed to providing our Foster Carers with all their training requirements, offering on-line training (Kate Cairns Associates) and Local Authority (Safeguarding Children’s Board) training.
